I'm Laura Wilkerson, a board-certified family nurse practitioner with over 25 years in the medical field—and a personal passion for supporting caregivers like you.
My journey in dementia care started in the emergency department, where I saw the struggles faced by those caring for loved ones with cognitive impairments. This fuelled my drive to make a difference.
Over the years, I’ve worked in family practice, launched a medical house calls service, and even owned assisted living facilities with memory care units—all to better understand and address the unique challenges caregivers face.
My approach is holistic: I believe in treating the whole person, not just the medical condition, and that means recognizing the unique story of each individual with dementia.
I created the Dementia Caregivers Academy because I saw a gap in support, education, and community for caregivers.
Here, you won’t just find expert advice—you’ll find a compassionate community, a wealth of resources, and a space where you feel understood and empowered.
My mission is to walk alongside you, helping you navigate this path with confidence and compassion. Let's make this journey a little less overwhelming—together.
Join our community of empowered caregivers who are making a difference in their loved ones’ lives every day. Whether you're looking for expert advice, practical tips, or a supportive network, we're here to help you at every step.
We’re honored to support caregivers from all walks of life, and it’s incredibly rewarding to hear how our resources, guidance, and community have made a difference. Here’s what some of our wonderful members have to say about their experiences.
"Thank you so much for all you do. My wife is 49 and has FTLD and has been having mini- strokes for the past year. Finding you has been a saving grace to put all the pieces together in a way that makes sense. I am so happy that I found you. Thank you."

"Love your videos. Makes my mums situation so much easier to understand and relate to."

"I am so glad I found you, you are so helpful and your tips for caring with someone with dementia make the care process make it easier. Your sense of calm in a world of chaos is so helpful to me. I wish I found you sooner."
